Prof Manjit Matharu

Prof Manjit Matharu is a Professor of Neurology at University College London (UCL) Queen Square Institute of Neurology and Honorary Consultant Neurologist at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen square, London, UK. He is the Clinical and Academic Lead of the Headache and Facial Pain Group at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.

Prof Matharu trained at The University of Manchester and completed his general medical training in London leading up to obtaining the MRCP in 1998. He subsequently obtained a PhD at The UCL Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London. He completed his residency in Neurology at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, The Royal London Hospital and Homerton Hospital in London in 2007 before taking up his current post

Prof Matharu is a member of the Headache and Pain subcommittee of the Association of British Neurologists. He was a member of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guideline development group (GDG) for Headache Disorders.

Susie Lagrata

Susie Lagrata completed her bachelor’s degree in Adult Nursing at Wesleyan University, Philippines in 1996 and moved to the United Kingdom in 1999 where she currently works as an Advanced Headache Nurse Practitioner at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Foundation Trust. She has undergone numerous post-graduate courses including the Master of Headache Disorders at the University of Copenhagen in 2018. She is also a registered non-medical prescriber.

She was awarded the Top-Quality Patient Care Award in 2016 and Winner of the 2022 Royal College of Nursing Awards in view of the pioneering nurse-led services she established in the UK. She was a topic specific member in the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence or NICE guidelines for headache review in 2015 (CG 150 review). She is also a current member of the Education Committee of the International Headache Society.

Susie has presented at national and international meetings and has authored and co-authored several scientific papers in the last fifteen years. She is a guest lecturer at the London Southbank University and sits as Member of the Board of the International Forum for Headache Nurses.

Maha Ahmed

Maha Ahmed completed her degree in Adult Nursing from Bournemouth University in 2006. She worked in an acute hyper-acute stroke ward in Portsmouth for two years before moving to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, where she has been working as a Headache Specialist Nurse since 2012. In 2011, she earned an associate degree in Neuroscience Nursing from London South Bank University. Maha has extensive skills and expertise in the procedural management of headaches, including Botox injections, Greater Occipital Nerve Blocks, and Multiple Cranial Nerve Blocks. She also played a key role in establishing the nurse-led Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide (CGRP) clinics in Queen Square. Maha has delivered talks and lectures at local and national headache symposiums, including the Centre for Nurse and Midwife Research (CNMR) Festival of Excellence research conference. Additionally, she has co-authored several articles published in peer-reviewed journals.

Ajay Boodhoo

Ajay Boodhoo completed his Adult Nursing at Kingston University in 2002 and he currently works as a Neurology Nurse Consultant at Croydon University Hospital. He has completed numerous post-graduate courses in neurology advanced practice, including a Master’s degree in rehabilitation from Kingston University in 2015. He is also a registered non-medical prescriber.

Mr Boodhoo has authored and co-authored several scientific papers in the last ten years and presented various posters at local and national forums. He has also participated in various service redesign initiatives, such as the pan-London hub-and-spoke model for thrombolysis units, helped establish and deliver the Hyper Acute Neurology Team (HANT) service at Croydon University Hospital, and contributed to the design and implementation of the local trust’s clinical IT system, including training and rollout for the nursing staff.   He has held various senior roles in nursing, including Advanced Stroke Nurse Practitioner, Matron for the Stroke Unit/Medicine, and Senior Nurse on Call for the trust. He currently serves as the team lead for the neurology nurses specializing in epilepsy, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Parkinson’s disease (PD) at Croydon University Hospital.

Kate Crumpler

Kate Crumpler is a neurology nurse specialist, who has been supporting the headache service at GOSH over the last 4 years. Kate mainly supports the patient and families remotely by advising on medication management, liaising with local services, and supporting with education provisions.

Alongside her nursing colleague Joanne Mortimer, Kate helps to smooth the way for paediatric patients moving to adult care by facilitating the King’s Health Partnership (KHP) monthly transition clinic.

Claire Fisher

Claire Fisher works as a Senior Nurse Specialist for Headache at University Hospitals Sussex

Ms Fisher has been a Headache Specialist Nurse since 2018.  During that time, Ms Fisher has developed headache nursing services at the University Hospitals Sussex and University Hospitals Birmingham. Ms Fisher has introduced novel therapies for headache management in both centres and developed both local and national pathways. Ms Fisher is the lead author for the new Sussex Health Care Migraine Prophylactic Treatment Pathway for primary and secondary care and was involved in establishing the National Neurosciences Advisory Group’s optimal clinical pathway for adults with headache and facial pain.

Ms Fisher’s vision is to give patients tailored treatment options, which best suit their diagnosis, symptoms and lifestyle and plans to accomplish this by continued professional development, networking with peers, and by being on the front line of delivering patient care.

Bethany Hill

Bethany Hill is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, a leading centre for complex headache and facial pain disorders. She plays a key role in a pioneering multidisciplinary service, running both nurse-led and MDT clinics. She is also actively involved in service development, education and clinical research. Beth is passionate about health equity and has helped develop a primary care migraine pathway with the South East London Integrated Medicines Optimisation Committee. As an Honorary Advisor for the British Association for the Study of Headache, she supports headache nurses nationally through mentoring, education, and is part of the group developing a competency framework. Beth has presented at national and international conferences and co-authored multiple publications on the real-world effectiveness and safety of novel headache treatments.

Siobhan Jones

Siobhan Jones is the UK’s first Headache Nurse Consultant, a pioneering role through which she leads the advancement of headache care and services across Cumbria. Since qualifying as a registered nurse in 2004, she has built an extensive clinical background in neurosciences and neurology, underpinned by a strong academic foundation and a passion for improving patient outcomes.

In 2015, Siobhan completed her Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) qualification, followed by an MSc in the Clinical Management of Pain and Headache from the University of Edinburgh in 2019. Her research from this programme was published in the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, reflecting her commitment to evidence-based practice.

Siobhan currently plays a central role in Clinical Governance for the headache service in Cumbria and is working to replicate this model across neighbouring regions. In addition to her clinical leadership, she contributes nationally through her role as Chair of the Royal College of Nursing’s Neuroscience Forum and as an Honorary Advisor for the British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH). She is also involved in the Neurology Academy supporting education and training for healthcare professionals in headache and migraine care.

Furthering her dedication to the field, Siobhan is also a PhD Clinical Researcher at Newcastle University’s Translational Clinical Research Institute, where her research focuses on migraine and the future of headache care.

Anne-Marie Logan

Anne-Marie Logan is a Consultant Physiotherapist in Headache at St Georges University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and co-lead of the Headache service.
She has an MSc from UCL and is a Non-Medical Prescriber. She was completed an National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) pre-doctoral fellowship in 2018, has been a SIGN guidelines and NIHR grant reviewer and lectures on an MSc programme and nationally on headache.
Ms Logan has been involved in pathway change through NHS RightCare, the National Neurosciences Advisory Group and in system change through the South-West London Integrated Care System (ICS). She has led on implementing a multidisciplinary diagnostic and management resource for general practitioners

Antoinette Lagrata

Antoinette Lagrata is a Headache Nurse Specialist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Charing Cross Hospital. She completed her BSc (Hons) in Nursing at Middlesex University and is also an Independent Non-Medical Prescriber. Antoinette leads the nurse-led clinic at Charing Cross Hospital, providing treatments including Botox, nerve blocks, CGRP monoclonal antibody therapies, and gepants for patients with headache disorders. Recently recognised by the Royal College of Nursing as a Rising Star in Nursing, she is passionate about advancing headache care and improving patient outcomes.

Camille Millante

Camille Margaret Milante is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Headaches and Parkinson’s disease. She earned her BSc in Nursing from the Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga City, Philippines, before moving to the UK in 2016. She is currently completing her final year of an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at the University of West London.

Joanne Mortimer

Joanne is a Children’s Neurology Advanced Nurse Practitioner, working at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Joining the Paediatric Headache Service in 2014, Jo has been specialising in the support of patients with chronic and rare headache conditions and their families, for the last 11 years. Jo is also the sub-investigator for several of the paediatric research trials being conducted at Great Ormond Street Hospital currently.
Joanne trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital, gaining RN Child qualification in 2000. This was later followed by gaining a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Degree, whilst working as a Children’s Community Nurse in 2011, before returning to Great Ormond Street Hospital Neurology Team and then completing the Advanced Clinical Practitioner MSc in 2020.

Lyka Pacana

Lyka Pacana is a dedicated nursing professional originally from the Philippines. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cebu Normal University in 2011. Following two years of experience as a medical-surgical staff nurse, she relocated to the UK in 2016. At The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, she worked in the neurosurgical ward for four years before transitioning to her current role as a Headache Nurse Specialist in 2020. Lyka has led local headache education initiatives for neurology nurses and manages nurse-led clinics, including Botox administration and cranial nerve blocks. She now leads the Episodic Headache Service at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Rachel Pickering

Ms. Rachel Pickering graduated with a BSc in Adult Nursing from the University of Manchester in 2011. She began her career as an intensive care nurse before transitioning to a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Headache in 2017. Currently, she works at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, where she cares for patients with complex headache disorders. Since 2017, she has been managing her own Botox and cranial nerve block clinics. She has lectured at symposiums including the Centre for Nurse and Midwife Research (CNMR) Festival of Excellence research conference and delivered educational talks for neurology nurses locally. She has co-authored articles in peer-reviewed journals. Recently, she completed the Professional Nurse Advocate course.

Dominique Serrona

Dominique Serrona graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Bicol University in 2011. She is a Registered Midwife and Nurse in the Philippines. She initially gained experience working in the Medical, Paediatric, and Infectious Disease Wards. After relocating to the United Kingdom in 2016, Dominique joined the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College London Hospital (UCLH)  NHS Foundation Trust. She worked in the Daycare Unit for two years before becoming a Headache Nurse Specialist in 2018. In her current role, she manages her own nurse-led Botox and multiple cranial nerve block clinics. Her work has contributed significantly to the delivery of specialised care for patients with complex headache disorders.

Angela Stockley

Angela is  currently the Lead Nurse for the Headache Service at Salford Royal NHS Trust, where she joined in 2022 to develop the service. She has almost 35 years working in neurology and neurosurgery. During this time, she worked for 10 years as a highly specialised pain and neuromodulation nurse at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. She is also a non-medical prescriber.  She is a guest lecturer at Edgehill University, Faculty member of World Headache Society and member of British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH). She has a keen interest in caring for people with headaches and assisting them with the management of their condition and passionate about providing a comprehensive service in line with NICE guidelines and advocating on their behalf.
